Introductory Profile: About Parvaneh Johnson

Parvaneh Johnson, born Parvaneh Shagafi lived in Iran during the 1953 coup titled “Operation Ajax.” Operation Ajax is where the United states and Britain overthrew the Iranian government and put the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi into power. The previous Iranian leader, Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadeq was called a communist by the United States when in truth he was a nationalist. The Shah was a terrible leader to the Iranians which caused some Iranians to take some American ambassadors hostage before they could leave Iran. This caused tensions between the United States and Iran.

Parvaneh had strong links to the Shah though she was an avid protester of the Shah. Her father had been a General in the Prime Ministers army and when the Shah was put into power her father remained in the army. Before the Shah was overthrown in 1979 Parvaneh moved to America where she has remained ever since. Even though the Shah is out of power Parvaneh remains in the United States where she was married and raised a family.
