"I am getting ready to watch women’s basketball on television, and there would not have even been a glimmer of any women’s sport on television back in the 1980s. "

Introductory Profile: About William Kibler

I interviewed my grandfather, William Kibler. He was born and grew up in east Tennessee. He attended college at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned his undergraduate degree. After that he went to France on a Fulbright Scholarship and studied French for a year. Upon returning he enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his Ph.D. in French. He went on to work as a professor of Medieval French at The University of Texas. After some time at the university he was selected to be on the U.T. Women’s Athletic Council. He is a very kind, outgoing person. He is about six feet tall, wears glasses, and is bald.

In our interview we discussed the issues revolving around Title IX and the discrimination that women in college athletics had to face. The overall tone of the interview was mixed because he was talking about how happy his life was during a time of despair for women’s athletics.
