Introductory Profile: About Connie Austin

Connie Austin is my maternal grandmother. She was born in 1944. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. When she was 21 when she married Nathaniel Fay Austin. She later divorced him. She now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She had three children, one of whom is my mother.

She is very nice, funny, and she adores card games, especially those involving dice. She has blonde hair, and lines across her face from smiling so much. Her favorite scent is lavender. She had a career as a massage therapist after her teaching career.

She was a teacher. Specifically during 1966 through 1969, she was teaching when they were desegregating the schools. She was also the first and only white teacher at an all-black school. In the interview, she will share with us that unique experience.
