Introductory Profile: About Atis Jurbergs

Atis jurbergs is my grandfather on my dad's side, and I first heard about his story when I was quite little maybe the age of 6 or 7, but I had never gone in-depth about his experience until now. My grandfather was born in Latvia in a time of war, and at a very young age had to leave Latvia. He first immigrated to Germany where he stayed there for about four years, he was then taken to the United States of America, where he has lived since.

You might be wondering what my grandfather looks like, he's quite thin and is very tall, he wears thin glasses and has to use a walker due to a nerve condition in his leg. Atis is very friendly and was quite excited when I told him I was interested in interviewing him. He is very friendly and even helps drive other elderly places like to the doctor or to the pharmacy.

During our interview, I asked Atis many questions and covered quite a few topics.I started off with where he was born, Latvia. I asked Atis what if anything he remembered and anything about his short childhood in Latvia, then I continued on going through the order that events happen, occasionally skipping back to make sure I didn't miss any good stories. Most of the time the tone was pretty low, calm quite, a lot of thinking and processing, your speaking relatively soft the whole time. Overall the interview went well and I got lots of interesting stories and facts about Atis’ experience of coming to America.
