Introductory Profile: About Melissa Williams

Melissa williams is from the San Francisco Bay area and is the Co-chair of Notes & Words, a benefit concert series for UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland - UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals. She also works for an amazing news segment series called Brief but Spectacular. They find people with amazing stories and try to make the audience feel empathy for them,. like a 90 year old woman whose mind is still brilliant. In this case she helped to interview a group of men in the San Quentin prison outside of san francisco. All of theses men had been sentenced to life in prison as juveniles, a sentence so awful you try not to think about it. She loves working on this segment because it helps her find pity and feel empathy for people who you might not ordinarily do this for.

I'm sure Mrs Williams had many amazing stories but I chose to pick this one because for me, and hopefully you too, it opened my eyes about things that we take for granted, like being able to sit down on a couch and watch the news for half an hour being able to visit relatives when you want, being able to have a family, or even something as simple as going and getting take out dinner. These are all things that these men can’t do and many of them will never get the chance. Imagine living your life with the same schedule every day, day after day, for the rest of your life. What would you do?
