Introductory Profile: About Natalie Davis

Natalie Davis, my grandmother and political science professor at Birmingham Southern College, ran for U.S. Senate in 1996. She included both of her daughters in her campaign. Although she didn’t make it past the primary, she raised the most money out of all of the candidates. During the campaign, she learned that you need good friends to support you, even when they don’t think you can win.

I was lucky enough to get to interview her for my project. I heard many interesting stories that I had never heard before. At the end of the interview, I played a game with her. She had to guess if the quote was her own. Here are a few of her quotes that she guessed correct:

“A year ago the INTERNET was not something we could even spell, but now, we all
‘surf’.”

“...what makes America the nation it is is our ability to dream and to deliver on our
dreams.”

“My candidacy is different. I was not born, nor do I live, to run for office.”
