Introductory Profile: About Melissa M

For this project, I am interviewing my mother, Melissa M, on the euthanization of animals in shelters. Melissa M is a loving single mother of two children and was born in Broomfield, Colorado just outside of Denver. She now currently resides in Austin, Texas and works as a phlebotomist and registrar at St. David's North Austin Medical Center.

Her previous jobs include working as an adoption counselor, vet tech, and receptionist at over five different shelters all over Texas. She enjoyed working with the animals and often talks about how she misses having them around on a day-to-day basis. Her least favorite part about working at some of the shelters was walking the animals up to be euthanized. Her view on euthanization is that it is a necessary thing now, but could easily have been prevented if people spayed and neutered their pets.

In this interview, we covered why people euthanize, how it could be prevented, and her specific views on the process of euthanization.
