Introductory Profile: About Melanie Harshman

I interviewed my mom, Melanie Harshman, for the Firsthand History Project. She works at the State Capitol as a legislative reference librarian. This means that she makes bills easier for the public to find, and help answer people's political questions. Melanie has a B.A. in History and Womenís Studies from Southwestern University and a Masterís in Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin.

In our interview, we talked about the Womenís March on Washington D.C. It was mainly about the emotion and the crowd size more that the series of events. She talked about the goal of the march organization, that being to bring women (and men) of all races together to peacefully protest policies and ideas that they cared about deeply. She also talked about gender inequality in her family, which is what you will hear in my podcast.
