"When you in the open sea on a small boat, you risk your life and a storm - even a small one - can sink your boat and your life."

Introductory Profile: About Duong Nguyen

My interviewee was Duong Nguyen, who is a 53 year old pharmacist. He is also the father of me, my sister, and my brother. He is an immigrant that was born in Southern Vietnam in 1954 to a large and poor family but immigrated to America. Because of the Vietnam War, society started to crumble and the country erupted in chaos. The newfound corrupt government and society in Vietnam convinced him that he would be better off in America for better jobs and opportunity. He is a 5 foot 8 inch tall male, has graying hair, and dark brown eyes. He is calm and just, with a natural sense of right and wrong.

In this interview, Duong talks about how he escaped and his difficult journey as a refugee from Vietnam to America. He also tells of his first experiences in America as an immigrant and his interactions with others. He explains why he left his home country. Hopefully you found Duong’s story just as intriguing as I did.
