Anuradha Rao

As Interviewed by Divya Rao, March 10, 2018
"We all knew that the US pays well and it was like, say for the same job, in India you would get paid one tenth or one twentieth of what you got paid. I was earning $300 out there and I came here and for the same job, I was getting paid $3000."

Introductory Profile: About Anuradha Rao

I interviewed my mom, Anuradha Rao over her experience while immigrating to the USA. My mom was born and raised in Bangalore, India and came to the United States in March, 1998. She had a comfortable life in India but decided to immigrate the U.S. mainly on the basis of economic opportunity. The US. offered much higher pay for the same jobs and provided a new experience. She worked hard throughout her life in India in order to be able to find a job, make new friends and family, and adjust to a foreign environment.

In our interview, she discussed her reasons for immigrating; her primary reason being economic, and the secondary reason being the interesting culture of the US. She also talked about her parents’ involvement, marriage, and the adjustments she had to make after immigrating.
