Prudence Mackintosh

As Interviewed by Owen Mackintosh, March 23, 2019
"Do you know the phrase 'born on third base'? Well if you were born on third base you don’t have to go very far to get home, isn’t that right? What if you were born on first base? You’ve got farther to go, don’t you."

Introductory Profile: About Prudence Mackintosh

The person I interviewed was my grandma, Prudence Mackintosh. She is a writer for the Texas Monthly who also teaches at The University of Texas. She grew up in Texarkana, Texas in 1944. She saw many examples of African Americans being treated unfairly. They had separate schools, water fountains, and entrances.

We talked about what she saw when she was young and what she thinks about it now, when she knows what really happened. The interview went really well, and pretty long. It was really interesting listening to her stories of when she was young.
